Looking for inspiration for this year's summer holiday? Creative learning breaks are a great way to combine relaxation with a feeling of achievement and make an unusual alternative to the traditional beach break. Perfect for those wanting to holiday without children, or on their own, a week on a West Dean Summer School in Visual Art and Craft will enable you to relax with like-minded people whilst immersing yourself in a favourite subject or learning a new skill. There are plenty of courses for all levels from complete beginners to advanced practitioners.
Nestling in the South Downs National Park near Chichester, West Dean College, with its large country house style, offers a creative educational environment and an informal, relaxed atmosphere.
All West Dean courses are taught by practising professionals, many of whom are world renowned in their field. The workshops and facilities at West Dean are second to none and the stunning house itself and delicious home cooked food will add to your experience.
One of the highlights of a Summer School week is the chance to take advantage of all the extra programmed activities including short, illustrated talks by tutors on their work, a programmed swap-over session to another course of your choice, an afternoon of organised visits to local art venues, a programmed yoga session, an optional evening at the Chichester Festival Theatre and a special party dinner on the last evening.
Non residential fees start at £602 for the week which includes all lunches and dinners. (All courses start on Saturday morning and end the following Friday afternoon). Accommodation for the 6 day summer school is available from £240 which includes breakfast. If you are new to West Dean you will be entitled to 10% off the course fees (telephone bookings only). Partners who are not attending courses are welcome to stay at the College, sharing your room on a resident only basis, priced at £70 per night full board.
