The new August issue of Popular Patchwork will be in the shops from Friday 22 July
Hearts are all around at the
moment, as Sadie Yeomans’ brings us the first instalment of her lovely Block of the Month quilt. We hope you will enjoy this cute
sampler quilt series, with its clever combination of piecing and appliqué in an
easy selection of stash or new fabrics.
I hope some of you had the
chance to visit the fantastic display of quilts and textile art by New
Horizons, held outdoors at the Stockwood Discovery Centre from November 2010 to
June this year. Our feature Inside Out, brings you just a
taste of this amazing, groundbreaking exhibition.
We’ve got two special treats
for anyone at home wishing they were away on holiday this month. Angela Huddart
has designed a beautiful seascape, Sea of Tranquility, for Popular Patchwork this month, just the project to calm
you down if the school holiday season is less than relaxing. There’s also a
lovely summer quilt, All at Sea, by Hilary Gooding,
featuring a great nautical range of fabrics from Makower.
In our features section this
month, Wendy Gardiner explains basic sewing machine maintenance in Can we fix it?, a handy guide which may save you money! Wendy will help
you understand how to look after your most important sewing tool and correct
common problems without calling in the engineers. There’s a great gallery and
review from The Spring Quilt Festival
at Chilford. If you were there, take a look and see whether Anne
Williams’ favourites match your own and if not, enjoy our selection of the best
from this popular show.
There are two different types
of table runner in this issue, for those wishing to improve their foundation
piecing skills, try Sarah Williamson’s Top
Table. There are two configurations of this
design, and you could create your own from the set of units. Gillian Cooper
tells us all about the history of the 54-40 or Fight block in Building Blocks, and then brings us a bonus 54-40 project
with her three block runner.
For those interested in sewing
with an eco perspective, we’re recycling again with Chris Hammacott who tells
us her views on the Delights of Denim. You
also might like to check out our sister publication, Sew Eco, a practical and green guide to sewing from
myHobbystore. Our regular features this month include your
wonderful letters and photos in Show and Tell, and an easy bunting project for the school holidays in Kids’ Corner.
Don’t forget to enter our
fantastic Fabric Freedom competition, your chance to win lots of lovely co-ordinated fabric from
the Mini Morris range.
There are over £800 worth of prizes and giveaways in this issue. Don't forget to check the 'What's New' section and book review pages for all our prize draws and special offers.
