This month's issue, on sale 18th February
It’s funny. Some issues go together really smoothly and easily. At other times, everything seems to go wrong. What with working around public and staff holidays or other work, I was expecting the putting together of this issue to be ‘interesting’ shall we say and yet it’s been quite the reverse, which is good for my health! It just goes to show, however much care and planning you put into something, you never quite know how life is going to pan out and the same can be said of making a quilt. Whilst you choose fabrics that go together, sometimes one fabric isn’t quite right, or a template just doesn’t fit! But when all is said and done, the end result and stresses along the way, are always worth it.
We’re giving you a good mix of projects this month, some easy, some to test your skills. We start a new series quilt in this issue with the Tulips quilt. This project will run over the next six issues and incorporates a variety of techniques. The Rose Stained Glass Cushion is a follow up to a project that Julie Hodges designed for us a couple of years ago. Lynne Goldsworthy shows us a foundation pieced way of making HSTs in Spotty Pinwheels while the Ojo de Dios Wrap is another foundation pieced project. I’m sure quite a few of you have some Liberty of London fabrics stashed away and might like to raid that stash for the Liberty Quilt.
Lots for you to read in this issue. We meet Joë Bennison, a longarm quilter whose stunning work you may have seen at many recent quilt shows. Chris Hammacott tells us about the quilts she has been making for dementia sufferers in Forgotten Memories. We learn about Ice Dyeing and also find out about a new company in England producing cotton in Cotton Comes Home. We take a look at this year’s Journal Quilt Challenge ‘Let’s Dance’ and review the annual bunfight that is the Fabric Sale at Farnham Maltings. We also meet Mimram Quilters.
