A 1m square quilt for Alzheimers Charity
How would your quilt group like to help Alzheimer Scotland set a world record for the most quilts made in one day? Ann Hill and friends had a dummy run in Dumfries recently and every one of the 19 quilters who took part made at least one 40in quilt from start to finish. The 'Yes we can - together' project started way back in 2009 when Ann Hill was asked if she would work with those living with dementia, to involve them in quilting and design and to put their memories onto quilts. Text reproduced from Alzheimer Scotland with permission from Ann Hill

This is my quilt for Hampden Park in Glasgow in aid of Alzheimers. They are planning to cover the football pitch with 5000 one metre squared quilts which will be auctioned off after the event. The event is in May next year - If anyone is interested, the link is Yes we can – together: Quilting update Edited By Katy on 25/07/2012 11:56:00 |

I hadn't heard of this group before, I wish we had produced something for them, I like to support Alzheimers research. I will investigate. (In answer to the earlier message - to put a link in a post you need to type the description first, highlight it, and then press the link button, hope that helps! Katy)

Moderator 4430 forum posts 401 photos | Oh Reenie... we have an older woman that came to church for many years, but now suffers from Alzheimers. The uplifting thing though is, every Tuesday evening at St. Andrews Church, our bell ringers practice their bell ringing as well as the quarter peel on a Sunday morning. When the bells are ringing this particular woman comes to life. Her memories flood back and she is her old self again...until the bells stop. Tessa x |

Moderator 5150 forum posts 3391 photos 499 articles | I've emailed Ann this morning to see if we can add some quilts to the Hampden Park collection. There is also a Guiness World Record attempt for the most quilts made in one day in Scotland (October 6th), so if you live in Scotland, you can either travel to the mass event, or take part at someones house as a group of three quilters. |
