5698 forum posts 1170 photos 4 articles | Hi All, I have come up with yet another poser for you all. THREAD and I don;t mean this thread I mean the type you sew with. What type is your favourite, do you lean to plain thread or is variegated your favoured choice. Not sure if I can ask which brand on here, but what the heck I can only get sacked once!!!!! Which is your favourite brand of thread?? Do you ever use Monofilament thread on your quilts? I love thread you can never have too muh is my motto, cannot wait for the FoQ, am going to give Barnyarns a bit of stick for their threads...just gorgeous and all waiting for me......

907 forum posts 154 photos | I love gutermann thread and use lots of it. I have tried using rayon thread in my machine for decorating postcards and after some adjusting, managed to get it to work. I have a lovely metallic thread but my sewing machine just chews it up. Wonder if my tensions are wrong?????

Moderator 4403 forum posts 396 photos | Hi Jan, I used to use Gutterman, I still do if I need the right colour, but Coats Duet has a good quality cotton thread which my machine adores. The Gutterman Variagated Cotton 30 weight threads are wonderful. For machine piecing my blocks I use my large spools of 5,000 metres neutral beige cone of thread. Claire....if you use metallic threads be sure you are using a Metallica needle....makes a big difference on the stress on the thread. Also went to a thread class a couple of weekends ago....and had a play day with Mettler threads....just love their variagated ones....good quality. Tessa |

921 forum posts 207 photos | I love all thread, my machine loves Superior, YLI and Gutterman.
I have used monopoly thread on a quilt, it did a good job but you need really good light to be able to see the thread ( or a strong pair of glasses I do like varigated threads as they add extra interest.
Not to be out done by Jan I will also be visiting them at the FoQ Carol B |

50 forum posts 12 photos | hi, I love threads, all the colours!!! a feast on the eyes!!! I used to be a buyer of a haberdashery department and so got the chance to try (freebies) lots of threads and speak to the manufacturers. Got all the shade cards - still!! Years ago I used Sylko but found that my machine was happier with Gutermann, use cotton for general piecing. Machine quilting I use Gutermann Sulky cotton 30 both plain and varigated, depending on the colours of the fabric and the design. Also use it for some machine embroidery but mostly on postcards I use Madeira Rayon, got their chest with all the colours. On monafilments I use Madeira one, smooth and soft, other than trying to thread the needle (can't see it) it is a great thread. Tortoise.
