I know it is badly made but you loved it when you were a baby.

It isn't badly made, it is just 40 years old, and it has been hanging on a wall for 90% of that time. I did love it when I was little, and I still do, so there!

Hi to Katy's mum - I like it too and my 7 yr old wishes I'd make her something like that. She loves the horse in particular!

Gosh Claire, you are one of the only people to have ever correctly identifed the piece of fur as a dog! It is a terrier, and I was forever having to explain what it was to my friends, they could never tell, but me and Mum thought it was obvious! He is very bald now, but was stroked a lot when I was little. The horse is suede, and the rider has corduory legs and a velvet hat and jumper, they were stroked a lot too! The willow tree at the back is made out of my dads dressing gown towelling, and my sister was convinced that it was a jellyfish and not a tree. All the fabrics in it are imprinted on my memory, from seeing practically every day of my life. I think the only time I haven't seen it every day is when I was at university, on holiday, or the six months that I lived in Cambridge. Otherwise it has been on the wall in my, Stella's or Daisy's bedroom since I was born. It is very faded, and I washed it when Stella first had it nearly thirteen years ago, and it was never the same afterwards.

Hi Katy, and hello to Katy's mum.... such a special piece of history to keep on the wall....these are the memories that will never fade.
I too, have something my mum made for me...a pair of pillow cases that are hand embroidered. I keep them safe in the drawer under the bed, but will get them out and take a picture of them.
Thank you Margaret for sharing it.

Hi Katy's mum,
welcome to the forum and thank you for sharing you piece of artwork with us. What a lovely memento for Katy and her children too. I have a lady golliwog my mum knitted for me when I was a little'n, it is in the roof somewhere....I hope.
Honestly Katy, fur goodness sake, I could see that was a dog, would you like the breed of it too.....naughty naughty girl.
I think it is fabulous, Katy's mum,. can you tell us all the fabrics you used in the making of this, to prove you can use any fabrics for anything. Many thanks. It is brilliant. Katy take care of it now or you will be in trouble from the bat.
