My next door neighbour persuaded me out of the house this morning, to look at wardrobes in junk shops. I did a bad thing, and bought this. It sews beautifully, and has a full set of bizarre feet that look impossibly complicated. I will be in big trouble this evening, but I knew if I didn''t buy it, I''d be really regretting it. It''s not that old, its 1939, but it is in lovely condition. I''m telling myself I was making a generous donation to our local cancer hospice as an excuse.

What a beauty! I'm sure you won't be in trouble for buying it, just think of all the savings you will be making to the electricity bill

It's exactly like my mum's was, although the case was darker - they certainly don't make 'em like that any more!!

I'm eventually having my Mums singer treadle. She bought it 2nd hand with her first wage package, that would be 70years ago. I learnt to sew on it, but sewed my finger into it one day.

I have got one too. I've just found it. It has been stored for about 25 years and, I am ashamed to say, it is in a bit of a state! Don't know the age but the number is Y1554262 and it has the old shuttle bobbin. I had better clean it up.

I'm sure the hospice shop appreciates the donation ;o) Also, I bet the previous owner would be thrilled to know that someone who will take such good care of it has adopted it - have fun!

That looks beautiful Katy. I must admit when I'm out and about I sometimes pop into charity shops to see what's going but never had luck like that. Still, I live in hope!

My first machine was exactly like that Katy, with a shuttle bobbin. I made all the children's clothes and mine and some of DH's with it.

It's lovely.
