i've just learnt a valuable lesson - never to cut fabric on the floor!!
i was cutting some squares when my rotary cutter slipped and has sliced half of my finger off! i don't think it needs stitches but its a nice chunk of skin!!!
it hurts, a lot.................but i wont do that again! no more patchwork for me today!

Always use a mat and a ruler and always cut away from you - then if the cutter gets away from you you lose fabric, not fingers!
Glad it isn't more serious Louise!

|And always remember to retract the blade when you are not actually using it - ask me how I know about that one!!!|

Join the club. I have to admit that I did the same thing last week. I was using a mat and ruler but I broke the rule of directional cutting..... I was in a hurry to complete the 4 quilts for my granchildren and was rushing too much and cut towards me DOH!
Mine bled badly for about 20 mins so thought I needed to go to A&E but luckily it stopped and it was so painful.......and yes a lesson learned.
Silly me - it got me nowhere fast as I had to shelve quilting and got more behind.
Hope it heals quickly for you.

|I always make sure I have good shoes on when I use a cutter - as a friend (of a friend) dropped one on her foot and ended up in A&E having sliced through an artery. Treat them with respect!!|

Snap, Ros - well, at least to wearing shoes! I also keep mine in a case and it is always put back straight away, even if left on the table for a minute. I have a 5 yr old who doesn't understand danger....
