i've just learnt a valuable lesson - never to cut fabric on the floor!!
i was cutting some squares when my rotary cutter slipped and has sliced half of my finger off!  i don't think it needs stitches but its a nice chunk of skin!!!
it hurts, a lot.................but i wont do that again!  no more patchwork for me today!

Always use a mat and a ruler and always cut away from you - then if the cutter gets away from you you lose fabric, not fingers!
Glad it isn't more serious Louise!

And always remember to retract the blade when you are not actually using it - ask me how I know about that one!!!

Hi Lou
Join the club. I have to admit that I did the same thing last week. I was using a mat and ruler but I broke the rule of directional cutting..... I was in a hurry to complete the 4 quilts for my granchildren and was rushing  too much and cut towards me DOH!
Mine bled badly for about 20 mins so thought I needed to go to A&E but luckily it stopped and it was so painful.......and yes a lesson learned.
Silly me - it got me nowhere fast as I had to shelve quilting and got more behind.
Hope it heals quickly for you.

New someone who was cutting on the floor and sliced her thigh, I feel faint just thinking about it .Just had my last trip to Joann Fabrics bought some Rick Rack as I keep meaning to use some in a quilt.

I always make sure I have good shoes on when I use a cutter - as a friend (of a friend) dropped one on her foot and ended up in A&E having sliced through an artery.  Treat them with respect!!

Snap, Ros - well, at least to wearing shoes! I also keep mine in a case and it is always put back straight away, even if left on the table for a minute. I have a 5 yr old who doesn't understand danger....
