I guess I could have put this in the CHAT thread, but I didn't want it to get swallowed up as it were!
What are we going to do about this here threatened postal strike, re our postings of blocks and whatevers????
Are we going to just post and pray it gets to destination,
OR
are we going to hold fast for a while?
I have stuff I have to send out to ladies on here, but am concerned now about things not reaching the rightful people. After all our work it will be a shame for things to get lost,
WHAT TO DO FOLKS.

I don't think a date has been set yet for a postal strike, although it looks as though it could be affecting Christmas deliveries when it happens.
I shall send my teacup block by special delivery as the Post Office guarantees next day delivery - I know it costs a bit more but at least I know it will get there. I'll probably send my postcard first class post and hope that it gets to its destination. At the moment we are getting our regular post as normal.
We shall have to keep an eye on the situation and make a decision about what to do at the appropriate time.

just to say that I am still getting my post okay in Somerset, and that the recipients of my letters are getting them. I even received a nice little tax refund cheque from the government with no probs!!

Here in West London there are delays on a regular basis, but the mail gets to it's destination eventually, although it is possible things get lost somhow.
Google Royal Mail and there you can see on a daily basis the situation regarding the strikes region by region.
It's a good idea to send important items registered, I will certainly do that to the next cards and blocks I make.
Marian, I wish I had sent your card this way. Let's hope it arrives tomorrow. If it has not arrived by the end of the week, I will make you another and send it by registered.

Please don't worry about the teacup blocks, we have until 2011 to finish the quilt!
Irene, the guaranteed delivery doesn't work if there is a strike. I know someone who got caught out that way in a previous strike and it was an important business document.
I wondered if we should set up the old stage coach post and work out collection points between us? Might be a bit difficult for those not in the UK!
We didn't get any post yesterday because Swindon were out. Hopefully, people will sort things out and not put jobs at risk.

| 391 forum posts 59 photos | Hi all
A couple of things if it will help.
At my work I receive a daily automated email from royal mail. It tells me the situation on a daily basis.
It also says specifically that registered mail will get delivered as usual.
It seems that most areas of the country will get affected even though there are no strikes as various distribution and sorting offices are on strike and therefore a lot of post gets affected.
I am just wondering if we could delay sending stuff till it is over. We could maybe post our items on the forum so the recipients can at least see what they will receive. I know it takes the surprise out of getting the lovely cards and so on in the post, but this way they may be safe. Any thoughts? However, when I have finished this months block and card, I will send them registered and see what happens.
Re the stuff to Anita. When I went to my local post office to send it, the woman behind the counter told me it would be £1.21 and would take 3 days. I thought it could not be right, so I said the item is not going to Netherlands in Europe. This was what she thought!! Then she found that Netherland Antilles was not on her system, so I went to a bigger office where there was the same problem, but at least the man found the place on his system and I was able to send it.

I think your idea about only posting on-line until this is over is a really good one as I haven't had any post for several days now. At least that way those of us who are really feeling this strike will have something to look forward to. I'd also hate to make and post my Teacup block and then have that go missing.
I still haven't received my postcard as yet, but I live in hope of it coming through as it's only been since last Wednesday.
I now have the added worry that my new November PP magazine will not arrive too.
Roll on end of strikes!

It looks like some people are getting their post ok, so maybe we just need to hold on for a bit longer.
I do hope you get the card soon.
