"Ok everyone, I've had a good poke about in some round robin websites, and friendship swaps sites, and I've decided that Brenda's friendship block system is the most suitable for us. This involves each person choosing a theme and then in turn, everyone makes a block for that person based on their particular requirements. This method produced Brenda's flower quilt."
In summary, the rules are as follows (with thanks to Brenda for sending them!)
1. The number of participants should preferably be between 6 and 16. (This is to give a workable number of blocks). 2. Each person decides on a theme, colour scheme, style etc. For example the theme could be flowers, stars, cats, houses etc. or just an open theme. 3. Names are drawn from a hat to set the order. 4. Everyone makes a block for the first person on the list following his or her theme. (Some people may like to send a 10-inch square of fabric to each of the group to be included in their block as a way of pulling them together.) 5. The block can be any size, square or rectangular, but any one side should have a minimum and maximum length (ours were 9 inches minimum and 16 inches maximum). The blocks can be any technique such as pieced, appliquéd, painted, embellished or a combination. 6. The finished blocks are then mailed to the first person on the list within a set time. 7. The process is repeated for the second person and so on.
The blocks can be put together in a quilt, made into cushions or anything else that takes your fancy, but the result must be posted on the page when it's finished.

As far as participants go, I have counted up the following people so far,
Brenda Janet
Lady H
Ros
Alison
Tessa
NN
Kerstin
Joan and Caz were a bit worried about the Round Robin, but would either of you be happier to join in with this idea instead?
I need to know:-
1) Name & Address
2) Theme, Style etc of the blocks you would like to receive
3) Whether or not you'd like to send everyone a fabric contribution, and if so, what quantity - 10" square each, FQ each. Bear in mind that not everyone will do this, but if you are desperate for your finished project to include a particular fabric in each block, then this would be the way to do it. However, it is absolutely fine to leave up to each other.
This swap will involve making one block per month for as many months as we have people in the group. We can negotiate around holidays and trips overseas etc (Tessa, you're not escaping!). It should be relatively cheap to take part, low fabric requirement, minimal time component, low postage, and minimum responsibility. If someone makes a less than perfect block, it's not the end of the world!

"Okay Katy, this sounds pretty good to me, so count me in! I'll give it a go, and hope that my less than perfect blocks are okay." "Katy, sounds fine to me. Im in. I have to think about what I want to go for. Houses, stars or flowers . That all sounds great to me. When do you need that info?. Can I have a few days to play it over? It will be a lot of fun."
Katy replied 10/03/2009 20:27:53
"Kerstin, you have until the 21st of March to think about it! have fun!"
Janet replied 10/03/2009 22:29:01
"Sounds good Katy, slightly different from Di's info she gave us above, but I expect all groups have their own preferences. Thanks Di anyway for your info.
Thinking about what I would like the blocks to be then will be in touch Katy."
"Hi Kerstin,
It will be fun deciding on your own special theme. The flowers, stars etc. were only a few examples - the decision is entirely yours. I think it will be a fun challenge for all."

"Here Here. I am thrilled that NN is prepared to 'have a go' at this. Good for her I say."

"Hey Nut Nut,
I think your quilting ideas are great.....I keep looking at your album and thinking....Oh That's Cute....on so many items. I think you're contribution to a Round Robin will be fun.
Janet,
I've been in contact with Katy and have my theme all chosen, so I'm on a roll. I have 4 sewing alteration jobs to do today so I will be limiting my butt sitting excersises in front of the puta.
Katy,
As far as me going on holiday, I will try to work around my time in Canada. I don't think I'll be taking any sewing with me unless I can come up with an applique block for the swap and do that while we are visiting....(OHH now that's an idea...it's amazing how my brain kicks into gear after a cup of tea. ) "

2140 forum posts 177 photos | Hi Katy,
I was at work on Saturday and I found two really nice pieces of fabric....so I bought a 1/2 metre of each. This way if we have 16 people in the swap, I can cut 16 x 10" squares ....one for each person.... 8 from each fabric. They are both the same theme so it should work ok....
I'm looking forward to this one.

2140 forum posts 177 photos | Hi Kim,
Remember, it's only one block a month...I know you are very busy...but just think,,,,when your name comes up, you do one block for yourself if you like and the rest of us do the rest of the quilt for you. What could be more fun but building a quilt for a friend???
Stop pondering my dear....get the lead out.....

p.s. And that goes for the rest of you.....
