I nearly got away with it, I've just picked my daughter (8) up from cookery club after school - she's made mexican wraps for dinner - but only one!  I may have to persuade her to "teach" my husband to make some more!

Tessa made me laugh with her description of stash fabrics and 'one heck of a singing garden.' My bet is that her quilt will be 'different' and quite lovely judging by her choice of fabrics for the first block. Talking of food - her ladybirds sound lush - almost good enough to eat!! Twenty 12 1/2" blocks from one jelly roll. That's amazing! Must have a peek at some Moda fabrics.

Made my block this afternoon, decided that it needed a bee after all - mine is quite bumble shaped though. My Dad would have had a fit - he was a bee keeper and wouldn't approve! I can't decide whether he needs legs though....

Ashamed to say that my father was a beekeeper too and would not be impressed by my very rudimentary bee. Yours bumble bee looks great - as does your block. If bee is hovering would only show a wee bit of leg. Were you ever stung?

Only once - when extracting honey from the combs, I picked up a comb and placed my thumb on top of a dying bee - it  really, really hurt! I was about 16 at the time & my Dad and then Boyfriend fell about laughing!

Thanks for the lovely blocks Babs, I'm really enjoying them so far!

Commiseration. Received a memorable sting, aged 14, when a bee crawled up my nose. My father (playing safe with veiled beekeeping hat and smoker in hand) said to stop fussing and it would crawl back down again. It did but not before venting it's rage on my nostril. Could hardly breathe for a week. Still have a lump to prove it. Squealing aplenty - but no laughter that afternoon!. A thought. Am making a Square Dance Block tomorrow in autumn colours at my daughter's behest. Might include a 'Hive 'n Bees abuzzin' Block' in the quilt providing I can conjure up more life-like bees - with a bit of luck to resemble yours. Hope I can upload pic successfully.

Well, I did it....got the next block done and that's with the dog having surgery.  Using the same soft pale green fossil fern for the background, I put in a different dark china red for the nine patch.  The four honey bees are in a medium green Moda Marble....(thank God for Moda) and the fabric for the other 8 honey bees is a darker green and of course, being Canadian, has Maple Leaves all over it.

Never had a bee sting Babs, but had many a Horse Fly bite up north while canoeing....mmmmm.....wonder if there is a Horse Fly Quilt Block.....??

Horse Fly Block? Wot a good idea - will 'google' it and see what appears! Looking at autumn insects and creatures to appliqué as have cut out both blocks in autumn colours. Used Fairy Frost fabric by Michael Miller in 'champagne' from my stash - for background. Other fabrics are leftover bits and pieces. Hope to piece the blocks tonight and hopefully complete them tomorrow. Will upload them when I've read Katy's instructions in current issue of Pop Pw mag. I knew folk would find these early blocks easy-peasy. Too easy perhaps? But just you wait . . . . might need an aspirin or two later on . . . . .

It's great to keep them easy until everyone is addicted. While they're easy, they're fun to do. I love difficult killer sudoku - the one without numbers in just totals, but I still like to do the easy ones! Like I said before, I'm really enjoying it, just thinking about the best way to use my scraps while maintaining a bit of continuity is keeping me busy!
