Moderator 5056 forum posts 3317 photos 493 articles | Popular Patchwork is proud to announce a new Block of the Month garden sampler, starting in the magazine this month. The sample quilt showcases batik fabrics in a variety of glowing colours, to create a delightfully whimsical quilt reminiscent of bright summer days. Based on traditional pieced blocks, the added appliqué touches are fun and easy to incorporate into this imaginative quilt. Barbara Youren McInnis is well known as an inspiring quilting teacher and we hope that by working along block by block quilters of all levels will be able to enjoy the blocks. The Singing Garden will be perfect for more advanced quilters and those who like a challenge, but quilters of all abilities will enjoy making one or more of the blocks for cushions, a wallhanging or even a lap quilt. Month by month we will complete the 12 feature blocks and pinwheel setting blocks, then assemble them and add the final appliqué touches before finishing and binding this wonderful quilt. Join in here to show us your progress and help encourage each other month by month with our tales of success or even accidents! |

We will make certain the next installment in the magazine makes it clear that blocks are 12in square when finished. We would usually recommend that you store all your completed blocks flat and safe until the set is complete, and then measure and trim each block to size when all twelve are ready, just to be on the safe side. Thanks again Barbara, and sorry for the error. I will make sure that the "Singing Garden" thread is updated too. |

385 forum posts 74 photos 8 articles | Wow! That was quick. Only another month to go . . . . . I usually reduce stitch length to almost nil at beginning and end of any machine embroidery - then make 3 or 4 sts 'on the spot' which secures and neatens the ends. Only have to cut off the thread with small scissors - close to the fabric. Same with machine quilting. Would take ages pulling all the threads to back of work and neatening off. Off-putting! Mind you, with hindsight, it would probably be more satisfying to hand embroider the legs. Can watch telly at same time!! |
