I know I've often browsed, bought, and regretted it! Some books seem to insist that they are exactly what you were looking for in the shop, but then appear to have been rewritten on the way home. It's even worse when you buy one online, the descriptions never match the contents. Tell everyone how you make the decisions when buying quilt books and help save each other from expensive disappointments.

Moderator 4430 forum posts 401 photos	Hi Katy.....I've recently read two books that I just couldn't stop laughing through. They are both written by Lisa Boyer. "That Dorky Homemade Look- Quilting Lessons from a Parallel Universe", and "Stash Envy - And other Quilting Confessions and Adventures". I'd recommend them to anyone who needs a good laugh and some neat ideas and advice.

Moderator 4430 forum posts 401 photos	Hello again Katy....I was wondering if anyone out there, (which I'm sure there is) has read the book called "Hidden in Plain View" - A secret story of quilts and the Underground Railroad. I purchased the book about 5 years ago and haven't read it yet. Having been born and raised in Southern Ontario I felt it would be a book that was very close to home. I think I'll try to start it again as I know the quilt block patterns back in the slavery days were very important. Authors are Jacqueline L Tobin & Raymond G. Dobard.

4 forum posts	Hi, I bought The Uncommon Quilter from Jeanne when I was in Houston for the quilt festival last year.I had made a little hanging using those little mesh bags things like garlic, oranges, onions etc., come in and thought I was being really inovative, just shows theres nothing new under the sun.All that said this is not a book for a traditional quilter but if you would like to try more unusual materials in your work this may give some inspiration.The Dorky book is good fun I've not read the Stash Envy one.There is a big debate re the underground railroad thing in the US some say its true others its not , I have not read this book but I think it would be interesting.

1 forum posts	Hi, I bought Ricky Tims' book Rhapsody Quilts after reading Davina's review. It's a lovely book, and reminds me of Dena Crain's crystal quilts. I did her Quilt University course, I think it's called Ladders and Crystals, and can recommend it unreservedly! She makes it so very easy to create the most stunning designs similar in concept to the Rhapsody Quilts. Anyone who enjoys this book would I'm sure also enjoy Dena's course.

637 forum posts 118 photos	Hi Tessa, just orderd my self the book Hidden in plain View. It sounds very good. Did you read it jet? I enjoued the books from Jennifer Chiaverini . The Elm Creek books. I loved them very much and can recommend those to everybody. Kerstin

Moderator 4430 forum posts 401 photos	Hi Kerstin, Although I've been here in Penrith for over two years, I still have boxes that need unpacking so I haven't yet found my Hidden in Plain View book yet. when I find it I'll read it ... or start reading it again. I am just starting the second book from the Elm Creek Quilts series....'Round Robin', so I've got that tucked by the bed....the first one was very good...so nice to hear of such a lovely story where you can share your love of a craft with others. I've already got the third book waiting in the wings. Have a lovely day...it's sunny here in Penrith, although very cold. Tessa
