Textile enthusiasts are in for a big treat this summer as the Museum of East Anglian Life presents a unique selection of Welsh quilts from the Ceredigion Museum in Aberystwyth - home to over a hundred quilts and bed covers. The Museum of East Anglian Life is situated in Stowmarket, Suffolk. It is an open air museum set in 80 acres of countryside, with over 20 historic buildings and collections of over 45,000 objects exploring the rural and social history of East Anglia. Admission to Abbot's Hall is free, opening times are Mon-Sat 10-5pm, Sun 11-5pm. This year the Dutch Quiltersgilde brings you the 30th edition of our annual Algemene Tentoonstelling at the beautiful Grote Kerk in Alkmaar. The opening of the exhibition of patchwork and quilts will take place on Friday September 6th and the exhibition will last until Wednesday September 11th.

During these six days visitors can enjoy 220 to 250 quilts, recent work by members of the Quiltersgilde, and several demonstrations. We are very proud to have a Dutch premiere and be able to present three pricewinning quilts from Houston made by Dutch quilters Ted Storm, Tonny Hering en Janneke de Vries. Furthermore Ted Storm will give lectures on Friday and Sunday. Tickets will be on sale during opening hours.

In Alkmaar there will also be a shop tour. About 50 quilts are on display in the windows of shops in the city of Alkmaar. For quilt fans this will be a unique opportunity to admire quilts, visit shops and meet fellow enthusiasts. The Quiltersgilde is, with 13.000 members, one of the largest associations of hand- and needlework in the Netherlands. The exhibition is an annual event that each year attracts around 6000 visitors. A large number of quilt shops will be present at the exhibition as well.

In session one we will select, prepare and cut fabrics and start assembling them using strips, squares or log-cabin patchwork technique. In session
two you will assemble the whole quilt top and prepare the wadding and lining.
